Jean Swain took up employment in the finance department in 1970 and remained there until her retirement. She was Acting Treasurer on numerous occasions when the Treasurer appointed by the FCO was absent from the island. Such was her loyalty and commitment she even returned from maternity leave early to run the department.

Jean was appointed as Treasurer on 1st March 1985, and held this post until 2007, when she relinquished her post, but remained on as Deputy Treasurer. During her time in the department, she trained and transferred her skills to 14 members of staff, of whom some still remain in the department today.

She was a vital asset to the department, and developed a strong bond with the staff. She witnessed how the Finance Department has evolved over the years, from the early days of using "Ready Reckoner" books, the change from pounds, shillings & pence to decimal currency, from Kalamazoo accounting to computerised Supercalc, Excel and finally Sage.

Jean is greatly missed from the department and the office is not the same without her. We wish her a long and happy retirement.
