Obituary for Monica Glass

By Conrad Glass

Monica Glass passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday 3rd April 2019, aged 88 years.

Monica Anne Glass (née Rogers) was born on the 4th January 1931, and was the youngest of three children born to Jack and Rose Rogers. Monica was only six months old when her Father died. She had a difficult life growing up without a father, and had to work hard from an early age to help her Mother, brother and sister.

Monica married Edwin Glass in 1952 and they had two children, Sheila Rose Glass born 1957 and Conrad Jack Glass born 1961. Monica used to work at the Fishing Factory, one of many ladies who packed the crayfish on fishing days. She worked hard all her life and enjoyed trips to Nightingale on the longboats with Edwin, and holidays to Stonybeach. She liked to work at the potato patches and spent many enjoyable weekends and holidays with Edwin and grandsons at their camping hut.

Monica Glass

Monica had a mischievous sense of humour, and was always pulling jokes on her friends for a laugh. To the children of the island she was fondly known as Mop-Mop. She resided on Tristan for 88 years, and is survived by her Children Sheila and Conrad, and her Grandchildren Leon and Warren.
