Focus on Tristan da Cunha wildlife conservation

Meeting at Joint Nature Conservation Council HQ

From Tristan Government UK Representative Chris Carnegy

A visit to the headquarters of the UK’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee gave a chance to meet staff who are working on behalf of Tristan da Cunha.

The event in Peterborough on 25th April showcased work across the UK Overseas Territories, but it was gratifying that JNCC Chief Executive Dr Gemma Harper delivered her welcome alongside Trevor Glass’s photo of northern rockhoppper penguins!

Cristina Vina-Herbon shared JNCC’s ambition to help Tristan find ways to measure the health of its vast marine zone, and Eleonora Manca described her work on ways to assess and mitigate the island’s risk from rockfalls.

JNCC is also starting work on the Territories’ part in a UK strategy for biodiversity: their team plans an online consultation with Tristanians in the coming months.
