The Government of Tristan da Cunha is looking for experienced, professional Occupational Therapist applicants to develop a client centred Occupational Therapy (OT) service in Tristan da Cunha for adults and children who have complex medical, neurological, orthopedic and psychological disorders. This is a fixed term post for four months. The OT will be the sole practitioner on Tristan da Cunha, responsible for creating, developing, managing and providing an OT service suitable for all members of the community. The OT will form part of the multi-disciplinary team working within Camogli Hospital. The duties may be carried out in various settings including the community, the hospital or the school. The OT will also deliver training and guidance to the current Community Care nurse group, so that as part of their role they can be trained in therapy assistance support skills. The successful candidate will have and Occupational Therapy qualification, current HCPC (or equivalent) registration and at least two years post-qualification experience. They will also need to be physically, mentally and emotionally resilient, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in writing and verbally. They should be able to communicate effectively with children and adults, think creatively in meeting the needs of patients, and work on their own initiative and devise their own work schedule.
This is a rare opportunity to spend time on one of the world’s most extraordinary places, and interact closely with the Tristanian community in providing vital support and training. The contract will be for four months with a salary of GBP 35,000 a year (pro rata), which is free from local income tax. Deduction of GBP 12.50 a month community charge. House provided.
