Students Support BBC 'Children in Need' 2020
Report and photos from Social Worker Sam Lowe
Tristan da Cunha has a long history of supporting the BBC's annual 'Children in Need' appeal and this year was no exception. On Friday 13th November 2020, the children of St Mary's school participated in a variety of sponsored walks to raise money for this worthy cause. The children had spent the previous week collecting sponsorship pledges from friends and family.

The day started dry with the Playschool children walking from school to the harbour, stopping off to collect pine cones on the way back to school. Then was the turn of Classes One and Two who headed to the foot of the 1961 volcano, via the Thatched House Museum. Once at Park '61, the children enjoyed a picnic lunch before heading back to school.
Class Four and Five were not so lucky with the weather, yet determinedly made their way from the Settlement to Runaway Beach. Here the children enjoyed a very chilly swim before heading home to warm up.
A charity bake sale was held on the 23rd November at Prince Philip Hall, for which the community donated a variety of delicious home made cakes, biscuits and savories.
All together the total amount raised was £1310; an amazing achievement for such a small community!
