Led by Captain Josiah Cloete, depicted in the centre, Tristan was seized as a British possession on the orders of
Secretary of State Lord Bathurst on behalf of King George III. HMS Falmouth is pictured offshore.

On Wednesday 14th August, the island celebrated its 208th Anniversary Day, which is a public holiday. Later in the afternoon the Administrator Philip Kendall and his wife Louise held a wonderful reception in the Prince Philip Hall.

The reception started off with a screening of vintage Tristan photos, which was very nostalgic for some! It’s delightful for the younger generation to see their grandparents, parents and other relatives ‘back in the olden days.’ The slide show was put together by writer Nick Schonfeld and photographer Julia Gunther using a selection of existing images from our island's archive. Nick and Julia have been on the island for the last nine months working on a variety of projects. After the guests had all arrived and got themselves a refreshment, the catering company ‘Seven Seas’ handed around a large variety of scrumptious food, which was all homemade and prepared by them!
