2012 Queen's Day

held on Friday 9th March

Dawn Repetto's Report on the day's catering:
The weather for Queen's Day was brilliant and everyone seemed to have enjoyed the event. The Atlantic Fresh catering team served Burger and Chips, Chili Con Carne and Rice, Apple Crumble and Chocolate Muffins from the school kitchen and provided a bar going with lots of cold beer and soft drinks which kept everyone cool and happy. The Post Office & Tourism Centre had a refreshment stall for the children where they were served ice cream in cones and juice after their sports.

Report from factory manager Erik McKenzie on the Queen's Day golf challenges:
The Factory decided to try a golf event due to renewed interest being shown in the game lately on the island. Instead of a full round of golf on such a busy day, we decided to limit the competition to Longest Drive and Nearest the Flag. Phillip Rogers and Jason Green helped out with the measuring and ball recovery while I handled the two tee off positions. Longest drive was a hard fought affair with the lead changing constantly. Each person was allowed 3 balls only for each event and Robin Repetto (reporting after official closing time) pulled off a last minute victory with a drive not too far short of 200 metres. Phillip was knocked out of the competition by this shot and Shane Green saw his 'win' reduced to second prize.
Nearest the Flag was also 3 shots only at a flag 60 metres away and I was knocked out of second position when Leon Glass managed to get closer than Patrick Green who then ended up with second prize. I don't think we are ready for international golfing contests yet, but if any country out there wants to send a team to test us we would definitely give it a go.
