We regret to report the death of Tristan's oldest man, Anderson Green, who passed away on the 2nd February 2025, aged 94 years.

Anderson was born on 7th May 1930 to parents Charles and Lydia Green (née Swain). Anderson married Audrey Rogers on 23rd February 1962 at Calshot, and they had five children: Jeremy, Raymond, Judith, Louisa and Jennifer.

Anderson, accompanied by Sogneas Swain, travelled to the Falkland Islands aboard the British Antarctic Survey ship RRS Shackleton in October 1960. They worked on Pebble Island for the sheep farmer Griff Evans. James Glass met Griff's son Raymond Evans during a Falklands visit and he remembered Anderson making him a Go-Cart in the 1960s. It is believed Anderson named his second son after him. Anderson also worked aboard the Falklands boat Gentoo which carried supplies and wool to and from the outer islands for the farming company Dean Brothers. Anderson and Sogneas were working in the Falklands when the Tristan volcano erupted in October 1961 and joined fellow islanders by 1963 to return home later that year.

Anderson was a quiet unassuming man who worked as a plumber for PWD for many years, and for a time in the 1970s as a valued school caretaker, also fishing for the factory on suitable days. He was very fond of trips, often with Audrey, on the longboat Britannia, known as 'Tanny', to Nightingale and to Inaccessible Island, where they would sleep under upturned boats as there were no huts for shelter.

Anderson is survived by his wife Audrey (née Rogers), and children Jeremy (and daughter-in-law Teresa and grandson Ivan), Raymond (and granddaughters Linda, Julie and grandson Callum), Judith (and granddaughter Michelle), Louisa and Jennifer. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
