Visit by the Bark Europa, March 2023
Report and photos from Rachel Green
The Bark Europa arrived at the settlement late Friday evening 14th April 2023, ready for an early start on Saturday morning. She has been visiting Tristan for over 14 years! We are always excited to see her and the familiar faces on board.
At 8.00am, the weather was still a bit choppy but the experienced crew of the zodiacs managed to get all passengers ashore. They enjoyed various activities including golf, walks to the 1961 volcano and the patches, and visiting the Thatched House Museum. All visited the Post Office and Tourism Centre to enjoy our famous lobster sandwiches, send postcards and buy souvenirs. The internet was also popular, and those who wished called family and friends. Many had free time to explore the rest of the island including the local shop, Albatross Bar and various other souvenir shops.
The weather deteriorated later that afternoon so the Harbour Master advised everyone to go back on board. Shirley Wainwright & Adriaan De Schipper also embarked as they were to join Bark Europa on her trip to Cape Town.
With the weather calm enough on Sunday morning everyone was able to come ashore again. Many just had a relaxing day, while others did last minute shopping and exploring. We wish everyone on board a safe journey to Cape Town and look forward to Bark Europa visiting us again.
