Obituary for Tordy Repetto
In Loving Memory of Asturias Frances "Tordy" Repetto who passed away on the 8th October 2024, aged 75 years.
Asturias Frances Repetto, lovingly known as Tordy, was born on December 12, 1948, to Joseph (Joe) and Mary (May) Repetto. As the eldest daughter, she embraced her role with love and responsibility, setting a strong example for her siblings.
Tordy was a very accomplished woman; one of her many achievements was being honoured with an award at Winchester Cathedral during the 1961 evacuation, a proud moment that included a memorable visit to the zoo and a ride on an elephant. Upon returning to Tristan da Cunha, she followed her passion for teaching, completing training on St. Helena and later specialising in special needs education in Cape Town. She dedicated many years to shaping young minds on the island before transitioning into administrative roles, including many years as head clerk for the Public Works Department.
Tordy's personality shone through in her creativity, kindness, and boundless curiosity. She was an artist at heart, designing beloved knitting patterns, engraving intricate Tristan-inspired motifs onto glass, and knitting soft toys that brought joy to children. Always eager to challenge herself, she continually explored new artistic pursuits, leaving an indelible mark on her community through her unique talents. Her garden was a testament to her vibrant spirit, blooming with flowers that reflected her love for beauty and growth. A private yet deeply warm person, Tordy expressed her care through her actions, sharing her talents and spreading joy in quiet, meaningful ways. She was also a captivating storyteller, preserving the rich history of Tristan through her tales, and her sharp mind delighted in solving crossword puzzles.
Tordy's warmth, artistic brilliance, and generosity of spirit will be deeply missed. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she enriched with her love and creativity.
Tordy is survived by her brother Gerry, her sisters Yvonne, Maureen, and Joy, as well as their children, all of whom will miss her greatly.
