December 2016 Tristan - Cape Town Baltic Trader passage

Baltic Trader's final voyage delayed

Report from Cynthia Green

The Baltic Trader arrived and unloaded passengers at Tristan on Wednesday 30th November, but poor sea conditions meant that the  first opportunity to offload was a week later 7th December, when the majority of the cargo came ashore. The wind is fairly strong from the East so no offloading on 8th December - it is like winter instead of summer.

Offloading started again on the Baltic Trader at 7.30am on Friday 9th December but stopped at 10.30am due to the sea conditions. Reporting again on 13th December Cynthia reports that a further two days' offloading is needed before the ship can prepare to depart for Cape Town. The Baltic Trader was scheduled to depart on 4th December, and, already over a week late, if the ship is delayed by more than two days, it may not get back to Cape Town before Christmas.
