The Thatched House Museum is the only building on Tristan whose roof is made of traditional New Zealand flax thatch. Thankfully, it suffered very little damage during the July 2019 storm. It lost a piece or two of the turf that seals the ridge of the roof and so the water got in, but nothing too serious.
