This important issue was released on 1st July 2008- the beginning of the fishing season. But until the shore-based fishing factory is re-built, Tristan fishermen will fish from MV Kelso, which will act as a factory ship.

Planned to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Tristan fishing industry in 1948, the stamp issue's First Day Cover has been designed to highlight the total destruction of the Fish Processing Factory
on 13th February 2008 and its planned replacement.
For details of the fire and its aftermath and plans for the new factory
- visit Factory Fire Page and Factory Building Page.

It is hoped that friends of Tristan da Cunha across the world, as well as philatelists, will want to purchase the stamp issue as a souvenir, and to help support the Tristan da Cunha community as it faces a series of hardships, also including a fragile economy and loss of its heavy duty crane.
